Testing Sahabat: A Display Font for Modern Web Projects

I was working on a new portfolio site for a creative director, and the challenge was to find a font that would stand out without overwhelming the content. After some testing, I landed on Sahabat. It’s a cool, paint brushed display font with a subtle texture that gives it a handcrafted feel while maintaining clean lines.

The first thing I noticed was how Sahabat added character to the hero section. When placed over a full-screen image of a design studio, it didn’t clash—it complemented the visual mood. The brush strokes felt intentional, like they were part of the creative process itself.

Visual Style and Digital Appeal

Sahabat has a modern yet approachable personality. It’s not too ornate or too minimalist. The paint-brushed texture gives it a bit of warmth, making it ideal for websites that want to feel both professional and personable. It works well in digital environments because the brush effect is subtle enough not to interfere with readability but bold enough to catch attention.

I tested it in several areas: headers, call-to-action buttons, and even as a decorative accent in sidebars. For the main header, I paired it with a sans serif font for body copy. This created a nice contrast between the expressive headline and the clean, easy-to-read text below.

Readability and Layout Considerations

One concern when using a display font like Sahabat is ensuring it remains legible across different screen sizes. On mobile devices, I made sure the font size was large enough so the brush strokes didn’t become distracting. I also used a light background behind the text to avoid any potential issues with dark-on-dark or light-on-light combinations.

For smaller elements like buttons or short phrases, Sahabat worked well as long as the text wasn’t too dense. It’s best suited for headlines, section titles, and other short bursts of text rather than long paragraphs. That makes it perfect for landing pages, course sales pages, and promotional banners where impact matters more than lengthy reading.

Font Pairing Suggestions

When pairing Sahabat with other fonts, I found that combining it with a simple sans serif like Helvetica or Arial provided a great balance. The contrast between the expressive display font and the neutral body text helped guide the user’s eye through the page naturally.

If the brand identity leans toward something more editorial or elegant, a serif font could be an option. However, I found that keeping the body copy in a sans serif kept the overall design feeling fresh and modern.

Using Sahabat in Real Projects

I used Sahabat on a coaching website where the designer wanted to convey authenticity and creativity. The font was applied to the main headline and subheadings, giving the site a warm and inviting tone. It also worked well in the hero section, where it was overlaid on a gradient background without losing clarity.

On a boutique online store, Sahabat was used for product category headers and promotional banners. It added a touch of uniqueness without being too flashy. The font’s texture blended well with the high-quality images and gave the brand a more artisanal feel.

Another example was a digital brand kit where Sahabat was chosen as the primary typeface for logos and social media graphics. Its versatility allowed it to be used in both print and digital formats, which was a big plus for the client who needed consistency across multiple platforms.

Practical Tips for Using Sahabat

Before implementing Sahabat on a live site, I checked the available styles and weights. It came with a few variations that allowed me to use it for different purposes—lighter weights for headings and bolder ones for emphasis. The file formats were also web-friendly, which was important for fast loading times.

For multilingual support, I confirmed that Sahabat covered the necessary characters for the project. Since the client had a global audience, this was a key consideration. Also, verifying the commercial font license ensured that I could use it across all client projects without any legal issues.

Overall, Sahabat proved to be a reliable and stylish choice for a variety of digital projects. Whether it was a creative portfolio, a boutique shop, or a coaching site, the font consistently delivered a polished and professional look that enhanced the user experience.
